  • Playing Hard-To-Get: Plastics For Long-Term Implantation
    1/6/2016

Sourcing polymers for use in medical devices - particularly long-term implants - has gotten easier in recent years, but is by no means a walk in the park. We'll discuss why this aspect of device manufacturing has evolved as it has, and what steps device manufacturers can take to inspire confidence from material suppliers and produce safe, effective products containing polymers.

  • An Introduction To Emerging Polymers For Medical Devices
    9/28/2015

Engineers who are working on new medical devices often need help selecting the best material, a polymer that will make their new product functional and safe. Material cost often is the primary determining factor. For high-volume, single-use, devices, material cost is of greater importance than in a reusable device or most implanted materials. Additionally, when the device being developed has unique requirements, developers must consider what material will have the necessary physical, chemical and biological properties that will allow its use at the lowest possible cost.

  • Selecting The Right Medical Plastics To Combat Hospital-Acquired Infections (HAIs)
    6/10/2015

It seems that everyone in healthcare is talking about how hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) are a growing concern in the industry. Whether the cause is reduced staffing in hospitals (resulting in less time for healthcare workers to thoroughly disinfect devices between patient visits), the increasing resistance of certain pathogens to current sterilization procedures, or any of a dozen other reasons, this problem continues to affect our customers, i.e., patients needing healthcare.
