Qualcomm Announces Collaboration With Vitaphone e-Health Solutions To Power High-Tech, High-Touch Telehealth And Remote Monitoring Services

Qualcomm to showcase its chronic care management solution and provide keynote address at mHealth Summit 2014

San Diego, CA /PRNewswire/ - Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced that its subsidiary,Qualcomm Life, Inc., is collaborating with vitaphone e-health solutions, a global full service provider of care management, telemonitoring, telemedicine devices and patient coaching. vitaphone will integrate its U.S.-based chronic disease management solutions with Qualcomm Life's HealthyCircles ™ Care Coordination and 2net ™ Device Connectivity Platforms to enable seamless biometric data capture from medical devices and coordinated team-based care in a high-tech, high-touch service model.

vitaphone will leverage HealthyCircles to provide a scalable infrastructure allowing for patient education and engagement, asynchronous communication and biometric data visualization to increase coordination across a patient's care team, ultimately enabling vitaphone to scale its comprehensive telehealth solutions. By integrating with the 2net Platform and Qualcomm Life's open ecosystem of connected medical devices, vitaphone can launch chronic disease management programs with blood pressure monitors, weight scales, spirometers, pulse oximeters, thermometers and glucose meters from other ecosystem members.

"We believe the future lies in being a solution provider that can help health care providers remotely monitor any patient for any condition and make the information available to the entire care team, rather than bringing a single-device or single-condition solution to the table. Qualcomm Life's transformational platforms will enable us to further tailor telemedicine service-based solutions to our clients' needs," said Brad Tritle, president and chief executive officer of vitaphone USA.

"vitaphone has pioneered unique solutions for remote patient monitoring that enable care providers to efficiently and effectively deliver care by automating clinical workflow," said Rick Valencia, senior vice president and general manager, Qualcomm Life, Inc. "They selected Qualcomm Life because our platforms enable collaborative functionalities across a patient's care team as well as unparalleled interoperability and a device agnostic approach in developing their chronic care solutions."

A service-based telehealth provider, vitaphone has a clinical call center that monitors, engages and educates patients, while filtering and triaging their biometric data on behalf of health care providers. By engaging health care providers through exception-based management, vitaphone prevents data overload and alert fatigue. Recent studies leveraging vitaphone services and devices inGermany for heart failure patients have demonstrated a greater than 21 percent reduction in hospitalizations and a greater than 50 percent reduction in mortality during the first year of monitoring[1]. Studies conducted in the United States have shown that a unique feedback loop for physicians enabled by the vitaphone Telemedicine Service Center has resulted in reductions of 30 points in systolic blood pressure in 30 days[2].
