12-Bit Converter

12-Bit Converter
The XRD6622 utilizes a new architecture called a pipeline converter

An analog to digital converter (A/D) with 12-bit resolution, 20 MSPS and on-chip reference and internal sample and hold, is available now from EXAR Corporation.

The XRD6622 utilizes a new architecture called a pipeline converter, which uses a six stage serial conversion technique, consisting of a comparator, a digital-to-analog converter (D/A) and an amplifier for each stage. This new approach offers excellent dynamic performance for a wide range of applications including medical ultrasound devices.

The XRD6622 will operate with clock rates up to 20 MHz, allowing the conversion of very wide bandwidth signals making it suitable for communications, ultrasound and video and imaging applications.

Differential input for noise reduction makes the part particularly suitable for communications and ultrasound. The XRD6622 draws 325 mW of power, has a signal-to-noise ratio of 66 dB at 3.6 MHz, and a signal-to- noise including distortion (SINAD) of 64dB. Spurious free dynamic range is -80dB. The device is produced on a standard CMOS process.
