Xicor, Inc.'s X25138 128-kb serial electrically-erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM) is designed for portable applications. This device uses a 5-Mb/s serial peripheral interface (SPI) to read and write data into its 128-kb EEPROM. To meet the power requirements of portable products, this memory can operate from supplies as low as +2.5 VDC. In addition, the product reduces consumption by offering a standby mode which dissipates 1-mA current. The EEPROM can be partitioned into separate read-only and read/write memory areas. As a result, sensitive data can be securely stored without the need for a separate read-only memory (ROM) chip. The 128-kb EEPROM is housed in 14-pin SOIC and 8-pin PDIP packages.
