The radiology department at the University Hospital of Basel utilizes a laser navigation system for CT scans and for guided minimally invasive surgery. A laser beam is used in the navigation system to project the needle’s point of entry on the patient’s skin. Brushless maxon drive systems are used to ensure precise laser unit movement on the device’s rail. This case study discusses the new laser navigation system for CT scanning, and how its technologies work with maxon brushless motors.
