Advanced Multivac Systems Produce User=Friendly Kit Packages

Kansas City, MO - Multivac thermoform fill-seal (TFFS) systems help medical kit packagers streamline production and sterilization processes, decrease material costs and create compact, user-friendly packaging. Kit packages, which contain two or more products used in the same clinical procedure or self-administered application, also require less inventory space in the central supply room (CSR) of hospitals.

"Kit packaging is quickly gaining popularity among medical companies because of its cost-saving benefits and ease-of-use," says Michel Defenbau, president of Multivac, Inc. "It aids the entire supply chain from production and sterilization through warehousing and distribution."

Multivac's TFFS machines create kits by custom forming the bottom web of material into compartments tailored to secure several medical devices at one time. Once the items are top-loaded into specific sections, the top web of material securely seals the package.

Since several medical devices or products are housed in one kit, the sterilization process is expedited. Additionally, by grouping components together and leveraging thermoform technology, manufacturers can use less packaging material and enhance production efficiencies. In-line flexographic and variable-data printing capabilities also can be incorporated to further streamline operations.

Clinicians and patients have embraced the easy-to-use packaging because of its convenience. They can quickly access essential products from one package rather than having to open several individually packed items.
