Agilent Buys Maker of Networked Anesthesia- Information Systems

Agilent Technologies has agreed to acquire Anesthesia Recording Inc. (ARI; Pittsburgh, PA), a maker of networked anesthesia-information systems. Financial terms were not disclosed.

ARI will become part of Agilent's Healthcare Solutions Group (Andover, MA). ARI president and CEO Chester Aiken Phillips and general manager Judith Phillips will head a research and development team within Agilent's Patient Monitoring Division for the ongoing development of anesthesia information management solutions.

ARI's CompuRecord system is designed to automate anesthesia record keeping throughout the perioperative process, including pre-surgical work-up, surgery, and post-operative recovery. The system provides anesthesia-management tools to utilize resources, improve productivity, track inventory and drug usage, as well as support quality-assurance initiatives and automate billing and record keeping. During surgery, the system automatically collects vital anesthesia and patient-monitoring data.

The system modules run on non-proprietary hardware and support any network infrastructure, reducing system and networking costs. Agilent has been distributing ARI's CompuRecord system in North America since October 1999 under an exclusive agreement between Hewlett-Packard Co. and ARI.
