AS&E Announces $2.3M Order From New Middle Eastern Customer For Multiple ZBVs

Billerica, MA – American Science and Engineering, Inc. (AS&E®), a leader in X-ray detection technology, announced recently the receipt of a $2.3 million order from a new Middle Eastern customer for multiple Z® Backscatter™ Vans (ZBV™). Configured for harsh environments and with Forwardscatter™ capability, the ZBVs will be utilized to secure and protect a high-threat facility.

"International ZBV activity continues to increase, particularly from the Middle East," said Anthony Fabiano, President and CEO. "This new client has responded to the ZBV's proven ability to detect explosives in vehicles and cargo with ultimate mobility. These ZBVs will utilize our new Forwardscatter technology option to add a second scatter perspective to enhance detection in dense regions of scanned vehicles and cargo — ideal for detecting metallic threats including the shielding around nuclear weapons. With these two unique technologies, the ZBV provides unparalleled detection to secure this customer's high-threat facility from a broad range of threats."

About Z Backscatter Van (ZBV)
A breakthrough in X-ray detection technology, AS&E's Z Backscatter Van is a low-cost, highly mobile screening system built into a commercially available delivery van. The ZBV allows for immediate deployment in response to security threats, and its high throughput capability facilitates rapid inspections. The system's unique "drive-by" capability allows one or two operators to conduct X-ray imaging while the ZBV drives past suspect vehicles and objects. For personnel safety in dangerous environments, a remote console is available for operating the system in stationary mode from a distance of up to 500 meters.

About Forwardscatter Technology
AS&E offers Forwardscatter technology to complement AS&E's patented Z Backscatter technology. Forwardscatter presents a second scatter perspective that displays dense regions of scanned vehicles. This unique technology is ideally suited to display dense objects, such as the shielding found around nuclear weapons of mass destruction (WMD) or other metallic threats. Detector modules positioned opposite the X-ray source capture X-rays scattered in the forward direction, maintaining the rapid detection capability of Z Backscatter technology. Forwardscatter is available as an option for AS&E's Z Backscatter Van (ZBV), Z Portal™ screening system and RDIM™ (Ruggedized Detection Imaging Module).
