Ault Incorporated, a leading North American manufacturer of external power conversion products, today announced its new MW116 Universal 60–90-watt series power supply. The desktop-style MW116 features 100VAC to 250VAC Universal Input in an IEC320 C18 (non-grounded) configuration. The MW116 series is available in 5-, 9-, 12-, 18-, 24- and 48-volt output models, and includes an internal primary current fuse as well as inrush limiting.

"The MW116 fills the 60–90-watt product range for the medical industry," said Fred Green, Ault's president and CEO. "Due to its inherent power range, these units are light, compact and ideally suited for a number of applications."

The MW116's small size ¾ 5.08 L x 3.05 W x 1.59 H (in) ¾ and 13-oz. weight means that OEMs can more easily scale down the size of their own products that need a small, yet versatile, power supply.

To help OEMs reduce their development-to-production times, the CE-compliant MW116 meets several federal safety-agency standards, including TUV/IEC601, UL2601 and CSA601.

Ault anticipates that the MW116 will be popular for powering MRI LCD displays, life care patient monitors, home care diagnostic systems and heart assist blood pumps.

"As the home health care and HMO markets grow, OEMs are designing portable equipment that can travel from the operating room to the patient's room to the patient's residence," explained Greg Harris, Ault's vice president of business development. "We believe our products and value-added services are well suited for OEMs because we understand their rigid product requirements and safety agency certification issues."

Additional MW116 features include foldback overcurrent protection, which ensures output current protection, and short-circuit protection. Transient output response is a mere 0.5 millisecond for a 50-percent load change, and the unit's holdup time is 10 milliseconds throughout its entire output range. All models have low output ripple and an impact-resistant polycarbonate enclosure. The MW116 also can be modified to meet specific OEM requirements.

The product will be priced based on volume requirements and desired customer modifications. The MW116 wide range product is the first external switch-mode power supply available in numerous voltages up to, and including, 90-watts.
