BEI Medical Systems Licenses Three Gynecologic Instruments
BEI Medical Systems Co., Inc. entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with Reza Mohajer, MD, for the worldwide rights to manufacture, market and distribute three U.S. patented single-patient use devices for uterine manipulation, endometrial sampling and endocervical tissue sampling. According to Richard W. Turner, BEI's president and chief executive officer, Dr. Mohajer, an assistant clinical professor at the University of Southern California's Division of Gynecological Oncology, will receive royalty payments on the device sales. He will also cooperate with BEI Medical in the development and evaluation efforts to expedite the products through the marketing phase.
The disposable uterine manipulator is used during minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures to facilitate controlled manipulation of the uterus with minimal cervical dilation. The proprietary Mohajer endometrial sampling device allows for both quick and safe dilation and endometrial sample retrieval in a single disposable instrument. The unusual configuration of the endocervical sampling device allows for more rapid, comfortable sampling of the cervical canal in one, single-patient use device.
Turner said, "We believe these innovative products will complement both our ZUMI product for uterine manipulation and our endometrial sampling devices, Z-Sampler and Endometrial Sampler. We are continually looking for new and advanced instruments that are beneficial to both the patient and the doctor and these three single-use instruments meet our criteria."
