Blood Banking Software Approved by FDA

Mediware Information Systems Inc.'s (Melville, NY) Hemocare Division received FDA clearance to market its LifeTrak blood donor information management system.

"The LifeTrak/Laboratory, Distribution, and now Donor systems were designed and developed by software engineers at a large community blood bank so that its staff could accurately process and manage blood product information, from recruitment and donation to processing, testing, and, finally, distribution of blood products to patients," said Mediware chairman Lawrence Auriana.

Auriana noted that Hemocare recently purchased LifeTrak from the system's developer, Carter BloodCare of Dallas, a community blood bank that continues to use LifeTrak in its multi-county North Texas operation.

Along with the LifeTrak system, Hemocare also acquired the development team and its leader, Rodeina Davis, a 15-year veteran of successful blood banking software development projects at The New York Blood Center and Carter BloodCare of Dallas. Davis is now Hemocare's vice president in charge of new blood banking product development, based in Hemocare's Dallas office.
