Boston Scientific to Reintroduce Rotablator Devices

Boston Scientific Corp. (Natick, MA) plans to reintroduce the original Rotablator rotational atherectomy device in limited supply later this month. The company will continue to ramp up the manufacture of the device and expects to have more significant quantities available in the fourth quarter.

And in the next 30 days, the company expects to submit the regulatory filings seeking FDA approval to return the Rotablator RotaLink coronary advancers to the market. This product was voluntarily recalled on August 6, 1999. (See Boston Scientific Recalls RotaLink Device.)

As a result of the recall and softness during the quarter in the coronary stent market, Boston Scientific expects revenues for the third quarter ending September 30, 1999 to be below its previous estimate. It now expects revenues for the quarter to approximate $690 million, or an increase of 20% over the previous year.
