Canon Communications To Launch Medical Show In Japan

Los Angeles, CA - Canon Communications LLC, the leading producer of tradeshows and publications dedicated to the worldwide $220 billion medical device manufacturing market, recently announced that it will launch a new exhibition and conference — MEDTEC Japan — to serve the Japanese medical manufacturing industry.

After the United States, Japan is both the world's largest producer and consumer of medical devices. The combination of an aging population — one person in four is over the age of 65 — and a first rate healthcare standard has produced a vibrant domestic medical manufacturing industry producing many of world's most sophisticated devices.

MEDTEC Japan joins Canon's family of established MEDTEC events serving the European, UK, Irish and Chinese medical device markets. The inaugural event is sponsored and supported by the Japan Federation of Medical Device Associations — an umbrella organization including 14 separate medical device associations that together represent Japan's 2,500 largest medical manufacturers.

"The Japanese medical manufacturing market is an established, growing industry that will really benefit from a comprehensive international supplier event such as MEDTEC," said Charles G. McCurdy, Chairman and CEO of Canon. "This introduction rounds out our international portfolio of offerings to exhibitors and it represents a significant increase in Canon's global footprint."

The first edition of MEDTEC Japan will take place April 7-8, 2009 at the Pacifico Yokohama Convention Center located just outside Tokyo. The exhibition will showcase 275 U.S., European, Japanese and Pan-Asian medical OEM suppliers and is expected to attract an audience of 4,000 Japanese medical OEM design and manufacturing professionals. A technical conference addressing new technology, applications and regulatory issues will run concurrently with the exhibition.

In conjunction with the inaugural MEDTEC Japan, Canon plans to launch a new Japanese language publication, Japan Medical Device Manufacturer, covering market trends, new technology and regulatory issues in the Japanese medical device industry. Initial circulation will be 10,000 medical OEM readers.
