Cardiac Catheterization Market Grows to $1.4 Billion
Expenditures for catheters, stents, and related devices increased from $809 million to $1.35 billion during that time.
The number of catheterization labs increased from 1,790 in 1997 to 1,820 in 1999. The number of rooms at those sites grew from 3,210 to 3,360 during the same period.
More than half of the cases handled by these sites were diagnostic only. Interventional-only procedures accounted for 15% of the total, and 24% were a combination of diagnostic and interventional. Electrophysiology and pacemaker procedures each accounted for 4%.
Nearly 90% of the catheterization procedures were conducted in hospitals with 200 or more beds. Hospitals with more than 400 beds accounted for half the total.
In addition to tracking the installed base of cath lab imaging systems, TMG's Cardiac Catheterization Census tracks installed equipment activity and purchasing plans for digital imagers, IVUS, filmless technology, and physiological monitoring equipment. The census provides site-specific information on case volume, network applications, cine film utilization, device utilization by manufacturer, and contrast media utilization by brand. Budgets for equipment, cine film, catheters, and contrast media are also included for each site.
The TMG proprietary database is available in TMG's Market Summary Reports, which include detailed interview and trend data. Data from the TMG census database for individual sites and for aggregate data nationwide may be licensed in digital format. The data also may be acquired for selected geographical regions.
