Chicago, IL (PRWEB)

February is National Heart Month, and in support of the American Heart Association's fight against heart disease, Cardio Partner Resources is dedicated to raising awareness and empowering individuals to get involved in the heart health movement.

Statistics show that heart disease is still the leading cause of death in both men and women. This year, the American Heart Association celebrated the tenth anniversary of "Go Red For Women," challenging America once again to wear red, get involved, and bring attention to cardiovascular disease, the number one killer of women in the United States each year.

There are many types of heart diseases: coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure, heart valve problems, and arrhythmia, just to name a few. Although medical advances and education of individuals on maintaining a healthy lifestyle have made progress against this disease, there is still more work to be done. One out of three Americans are estimated to have cardiovascular disease. Knowing the warning signs of someone having cardiac arrest and quickly calling 911 are extremely important, but do you know what to do during those minutes before the Emergency Medical Service arrives? Cardio Partner Resources (an authorized American Heart Association training center) distributes equipment and provides on-site training for first aid, and is a valuable resource in basic health care training.

Life-saving skills such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) are critical to adding vital minutes to someone's chance for survival after a medical emergency; furthermore, the sooner CPR is administered after the emergency occurs, the better the survival rate. Schools and businesses throughout the area can be trained in this and other heart safety procedures when they take advantage of the educational opportunities made available through Cardio Partner Resources.

Although not the same as a heart attack, Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), the leading cause of death, affects nearly three-hundred thousand Americans a year. SCA is an electrical malfunction in the heart which, when not treated immediately, almost always leads to death. It affects both children and adults, and can happen anywhere, without warning.

"This February is a perfect time for increased awareness of SCA," said Brian Leonard, President and CEO of Cardio Partner Resources. "Every school and business should be trained in heart safety and equipped with anportable AED [Automated External Defibrillator], which allows more people to respond to and restore an abnormal heart rhythm. For each untreated minute that passes after an instance of SCA, an individual's chances of survival decrease seven to ten percent."

AEDs are becoming more available in large public areas such as airports and sport arenas, but are still needed in many areas of the community. For example, only twenty percent of police vehicles are equipped with AEDs. Cardio Partner Resources is a leader in voicing the need for this training and portable device throughout the United States. In conjunction with the American Heart Association, Cardio Partner Resources focuses on heart safety.

You can help Cardio Partner Resources by becoming an advocate for heart safety in your community. Does your school or business have a life-saving AED? There is no better time than Heart Health Month to protect your loved ones and colleagues.
