Compact Thermal Printer
With the introduction of the DPU-3445 in 1998, the company was among the first to offer built-in IRDa infrared wireless printing capabilities, and the addition of RF continues this tradition of innovation in response to market trends. The RF capability provides wireless printing at greater distances, facilitates setting up wireless LANs, and increases possibilities for wireless printing in a variety of applications. Users can now select either IR or RF communications depending on their specific needs.
The system offers an indoor range of up to 1,500 feet in normal building construction and an outdoor range of up to 25 miles with a directional antenna in most conditions. It operates in the license-free segments of the radio spectrum designated by the FCC, allowing anyone to operate a wireless network in a license-free band without site licenses or carrier fees.
The new DPU-3445 RF print solution provides wireless connectivity using Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum technology on a frequency range of 2.400 – 2.4835 GHz with 417 independent, non-interfering frequencies. Using this technology, the signal randomly hops from one frequency to another within the spectrum up to 200 times per second to assure complete, accurate transmissions. In addition to non-interference capability, Frequency Hopping technology offers a high level of security not available with other wireless technologies, such as Direct-Sequence Spread Spectrum.
Depending on the device originating information to be printed, the DPU-3445 RF solution can be used in one of two ways. If the originating device has internal RF communications capabilities, I can transmit directly to the DPU-3445 RF transponder which attaches to the printer's RS-232 port. Or a second transponder can be used to plug into the originating device's RS-232 port for communication to the printer. Either way is an easy, plug-and-play solution for versatile, wireless printing.
The DPU-3445 is compact and lightweight, measuring just 160mm x 89mm x 29.5mm (WxDxH) and weighing only 370 grams. The unit's thermal line print dot system features an extended graphics character set which enables the user to print text, numbers, lines and boxes in two font sizes- 16 or 24 dot- at a fast print speed of 50mm/sec. and a high print resolution of 8 dots/mm. The printer's 48mm paper roll is 112mm wide, with a print width of 104mm.
