CoolTouch® Issued New 'Endovenous Laser Treatment' Patent

CoolTouch, a medical device manufacturer, has been issued a new patent which covers micro-pulsed lasers to treat varicose veins while reducing the production of thrombus (clotted blood that can cause serious complications.)
Roseville, CA (PRWEB) - CoolTouch Inc., a medical device manufacturer, proudly announces the issuance of USPTO patent # 8,409,183 titled “Endovenous Laser Treatment Generating Reduced Blood Coagulation.” This patent covers the method of using the special properties of micro-pulsed lasers to treat varicose veins while reducing the production of thrombus (clotted blood that can cause serious complications.) During the past 8 years and over 20,000 varicose vein treatments, CoolTouch physicians using the CTEV micro-pulsed laser along with the Clear Tip™ protocol, have reported 50% fewer thromboembolic complications when compared to other heat ablation methods.
Co-Inventor Mitchel P. Goldman, MD of San Diego, CA. "I have helped develop many different endovenous ablation technologies, but I've used the 1320 nanometer CTEV laser for almost 10 years and nothing else works better with fewer complications.”
Two recently published peer-reviewed papers; “Thrombus Formation using Endovenous Lasers: an In Vitro Experiment” in the journal of Phlebology and “Endoluminal Laser Delivery Mode and Wavelength Effects on Varicose Veins in an Ex Vivo Model” in Lasers in Surgery and Medicine describe the mechanism of the ‘183 patent. In both studies several different lasers and fiber optic catheters were compared for their ability to coagulate blood and avoid perforations in the vein. Micro-pulsed lasers like the CoolTouch CTEV showed significantly less thrombus formation and fewer perforations compared to other lasers.
David Hennings CEO of CoolTouch states "It is our aim to provide products that have superior performance and great value to the user. The CoolTouch CTEV laser with Clear Tip technology not only provides the best patient outcomes but also reduces potential costly and debilitating complications that could lead to readmission or follow-up treatment. With a variety of cost-effective single and multiple-use fiber optic choices, the CoolTouch CTEV laser system is ideal for the new healthcare environment of best care at lower cost.”
CoolTouch Inc. is a leading designer and manufacturer of innovative, advanced laser products for medical professionals. CoolTouch pioneered the use of mid-infrared lasers like the 1320 nm CTEV and owns patents (7,524,316; 7,921,854) that cover the use of 1319, 1320 and 1470 nanometer wavelengths for the treatment of varicose veins and the use of radial and protected tip fiber optics. CoolTouch products are manufactured in Roseville, CA.
