CSA Medical CryoSpray Ablation System To Be Manufactured And Distributed From Solectron Charlotte
UK - Solectron Corporation has finalized an agreement with CSA Medical to manufacture the company's CryoSpray Ablation system. Following eight years of invention, testing, product development and clinical trials, CSA Medical's CryoSpray Ablation system is rolling off the assembly line at Solectron's Charlotte, N.C. manufacturing facility.
Based in Baltimore, MD, CSA Medical developed the CryoSpray Ablation system, which freezes and destroys unwanted tissues found in the esophagus, which, according to various reports arises from chronic acid reflux. Peer-reviewed research estimates 65 million U.S. citizens suffer from this condition. The 10 to 20 minute procedure uses a catheter to transport and spray liquid nitrogen under low pressure through an endoscope to freeze the tissue.
Solectron's integrated supply chain services and medical manufacturing capabilities enable CSA Medical to accelerate time-to-market without making costly infrastructure investments. In addition to manufacturing the CryoSpray Ablation system, Solectron manages orders and ships directly to CSA Medical customers. CSA Medical and Solectron have worked together since August 2006 to establish an optimized Lean supply chain and manufacturing process.
"We needed a contract manufacturing partner with deep medical device expertise, complex systems mastery, and end-to-end manufacturing and supply chain capabilities," said Freddy Cannady, vice president, Operations, CSA Medical. "Solectron met this criterion, and has been, and will continue, to be a valued partner throughout this process."
"CSA Medical's CryoSpray Ablation System is an innovative approach to treating patients with esophageal diseases, and we're proud to partner with them to help bring this product to market," said Dave Busch, vice president, medical, Solectron. "Medical device firms are under tremendous pressure to quickly develop high quality products that meet physician and patient needs. Solectron is able to provide customers like CSA Medical with the supply chain expertise and the manufacturing flexibility that their complex products require in a rapidly changing clinical environment."
"Solectron truly lives a Lean Six Sigma culture. This has made it easier to integrate our world-class product with a contract manufacturer that maintains compliance with stringent U.S. and international regulatory requirements, and utilizes highly efficient and precise continuous flow techniques. In my experience, few do this well," added Cannady. "We needed a contract manufacturer who could provide one-stop support and complete system-level integration. We utilized Solectron's packaging and testing site in Columbia, S.C. to design our 'green' packaging to ensure our product arrives safely anywhere in the world and can be cycled back to manufacturing for continuous reuse."
