The company, a leading provider of photonics and illumination products, introduces its Dark Field Illumination system for detecting imperfections in clear and translucent objects. This illumination system includes an adapter with a glass stage, and a fiber optic ringlight. These ringlights are made of a technologically advanced fiber which provide high-quality, shadow-free, cool, intense illumination. The system is specifically designed for use in microscopy applications to enhance edge definition of translucent biological specimens. Also, it is ideally suited for the inspection of clear plastics, glass, and film.

The Dark Field Illumination adapter is made from black anodized aluminum, and is secured onto the aperture of the fiber optic ringlight using a captive O-ring for critical positioning of its glass stage. Once the adapter is secured, the specimen can then be positioned on the stage for inspection or imaging. The illumination system can then detect imperfections present in clear and translucent items via the darkfield technique. When an item is placed in the field, the light will scatter if an imperfection is detected. Conversely, if the item is free of imperfections, the light will pass through the object without scattering. The Dark Field Illumination adapters are available in three different aperture diameters to suit any need.
