Eastman Participates At Medical Device Puerto Rico

Kingsport, TN - Eastman Chemical Company will participate at the Medical Device Pureto Rico Exhibition & Conference from Feb. 1-2, 2007 at the Puerto Rico Convention Center in San Juan at booth # 1709. As part of the show's conference series, Ken Breeding, applications development platform manager for medical devices in support of Eastman's specialty plastics business, will present the "The Effect of e-Beam Sterilization on the Optical and Physical Properties of Medical Plastics" on Friday, Feb. 2 at 11:20 a.m. in room 204.

Ken Breeding has 21 years of experience in research and development of polyester and cellulose chemistry ranging from adhesives to new polymers and alloys. With this knowledge and experience, he will highlight the benefits of using e-beam sterilization.

E-beam exposure is becoming increasingly popular as a lower cost alternative for the sterilization of medical devices. The objective of this discussion is to help attendees understand the affect of e-beam sterilization on a wide variety of plastics typically used in medical devices, including copolyesters, polycarbonates, acrylics and cellulosic polymers.

As a global supplier, Eastman is committed to the long-term needs of the healthcare industry. At this year's show, Eastman will have on display applications made from its DuraStar and Eastar copolyesters, Eastalloy blends and Tenite cellulosics that are used in medical non-implantable device and packaging applications that deliver performance and peace of mind.

From mold design to end-user performance, medical device customers can count on Eastman's reliability. Eastman provides extensive technical support in design, processing and secondary operations. Whether professionals are designing protective packages that maintain clarity through repeated sterilizations or an innovative non-implantable medical device that requires excellent chemical resistance, they can count on Eastman to deliver an outstanding portfolio of technology solutions.
