EDA Consortium Elects New Board

The Electronic Design Automation (EDA) Consortium has elected a new board of directors to serve the organization though June 2000. Aart de Geus, chairman and CEO of Synopsys, has been elected as chairman of the organization. Walden Rhines, chairman and CEO of Mentor Graphics, and Kathryn Kranen, president and CEO of Versity Design, have been named as vice-chairmen.

"I'm pleased to serve as chairman of the EDA Consortium at this exciting juncture in the evolution of the industry," says de Geus. "Semiconductor and systems companies have recognized that EDA is central to their continuing prosperity. We have the opportunity, as an industry, to significantly increase our value to customers and partners by improving the interoperability, innovation, and quality of our products. It is in this spirit that I'm looking forward to working with my EDA Consortium colleagues to ensure the viability and vitality of the EDA industry into the next millennium."

Other newly elected board members include Prakash Bhalerao, president and CEO of Ambit Design Systems; John Eurich, president and CEO of Engineering DataXpress; Jack Harding, president and CEO of Cadence Design Systems; Penny Herscher, president and CEO of Simplex Solutions; Amr Mohsen, president and CEO of Aptix Corp.; and Gerry Musgrave, chairman and COO of Abstract Design.

The EDA consortium is an international association of companies engaged in the development, manufacture, and sale of design tools to the electronic engineering (EE) community. Founded in 1989, the consortium's mission is to promote the growth and strength of the EDA industry.
