EduNeering Partners with FDA to Develop Online Learning System
By using the system, FDA will be able to reach its employees in district and local offices via the Internet, thereby creating an internal FDA "virtual university." In addition, web-based education will help FDA meet the needs of State inspectors who conduct local inspections.
Under the Cooperative Research and Development Agreement, EduNeering will provide technology, design, and development of courses and technological support to adapt the agency's existing classroom training to this new web-based format.
FDA will review existing EduNeering online technical and regulatory courses, and will have access to EduNeering's entire library of courses to train their inspectors. For the private sector, EduNeering will also be offering the same courses to industries that are regulated by FDA and other government agencies.
"Classroom-based systems can no longer keep pace with the accelerating change occurring in industry. Online learning allows government agencies and industries to cost-effectively disseminate the most current technical and regulatory information on an as-needed basis," said Janice D. McFarland, executive vice president of EduNeering.
Initially, the focus will be to create Internet-delivered courses from the existing classroom material currently being used by FDA. Topics being developed in Phase One include: Food, Drug, & Cosmetic Law, Risk Management, Electronic Signatures, and food-related HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) training. These programs will continue to be used to train FDA and State personnel, and will also be made available to pharmaceutical, medical device, food, and other regulated industries.
