Electron Beam Designed For Intraoperative Radiation Therapy
Santa Clara, CA - Intraop Medical Corporation announces that it has delivered a Mobetron(R) to Ospedale Borgo Trento in Verona, Italy. The Mobetron is a mobile electron beam system designed for intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) treatment during surgery for cancer. The Ospedale is one of three hospitals that form the Medical School of the University of Verona. This is the second Mobetron that the Company has delivered to Italy, and the fifth unit to be installed in Europe.
Ernesto Lanzotti, President of MD51, Intraop's partner in Italy, said, "This delivery demonstrates the growing strength of IORT interest in Italy and in Europe. In addition to using the Mobetron for pelvic and GI tumors, the hospital is planning to integrate IORT treatments into their breast and prostate cancer programs. Most major hospitals in Italy are planning to have IORT capability that we believe can best be served with the Mobetron. We are delighted that Ospedale Borgo Trento has joined the growing number of hospitals who use the Mobetron in this country and across Europe. We expect this key installation will further stimulate the strong interest and demand for IORT in Italy and Europe."
"We are pleased that such a prominent institution has selected the Mobetron to initiate their IORT program," said Donald A. Goer, President and CEO of Intraop Medical. "We look forward to working with Verona and our other European colleagues to further establish the benefits of IORT in the treatment of cancer."
