The CRI-TECH Division of IMMIX Technologies and The Plasticoid Company (Elkton, Md.) have introduced new, high-performance fluoroelastomer compounds for medical components. The durable materials possess excellent resistance to chemicals (including peracidic acid) and exhibit good flex fatigue, electrical insulation and temperature resistance characteristics. The compounds also pass cito-toxicity tests.

Applications for the FDA-grade fluoroelastomer product line include flexible tubing for endoscopes and other surgical optical instruments. The first commercial application for the fluoroelastomers are bending rubbers manufactured by Plasticoid for use in refurbishing flexible endoscopes. The USP Class VI-certified bendable rubbers, designed to house the endoscope wiring, are manufactured in sizes ranging from 4.2mm - 13mm (wall thicknesses of 0.012mm - 0.020mm) using a proprietary molding process by which Plasticoid is able to produce consistent products that conform to tight tolerances.
