High Load Ceramic Bearings

Until now, the only way for design engineers to increase shaft loads on precision gearheads was to specify expensive ball bearings to replace cheap sintered bearings. With the company's 16AC Series gearheads, radial shaft loads can be tripled and axial load bearing capabilities doubled at a cost of pennies. The gearhead shaft is also capable of withstanding push-on pressures of up to 72 oz.- double the maximum limit of ball bearing or sleeve bearing systems. The secret ingredients are a high purity alumina bearing system combined with proprietary lubricants.

In development since the 1980s, this system is now commercially available for 11 ratios of 16mm diameter plastic gearheads from 11.8:1 to 5752:1. These gearheads fit a wide range of 15mm, 16mm, and 17mm company motors. Gearmotors using this technology can also be ordered with inexpensive magnetic, or traditional optical, encoder feedback. Typical load-bearing values for the series are 6N (21.6 oz.) radial and 2N (7.2 oz.) axial. All gearheads in the series have rated operating temperatures from –30°C to +65°C (-22°F to +149°F) and are capable of bi-directional operation, Gearhead weights vary from only .11 to .21 ounces depending on ratio and have efficiencies of up to 81%. Maximum output tourques up to 100mNm (14.2 oz-in) intermittent and 30mNm (4.25 oz-in) in continuous operation can be achieved. A rugged 2mm diameter steel otuput shaft completes this package. Current uses are in medical, surveillance, CCTV, recording, and other equipment where millions of continuous duty cycles and quiet operation are needed.
