Home Monitoring System Approved
HomMed LLC (Brookfield, WI) has received FDA 510(k) approval for its home monitoring system. The HomMed monitoring system collects, transmits, and stores true clinical data that can be used by clinicians to support diagnostic decisions.Edited by Ursula Jones
A small unit, called the Sentry, is placed in the patient's home. Each day, the Sentry alerts the user that it's time to collect vital sign data. The system takes approximately three minutes to collect data on the person's heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, weight, and temperature. Data are then transmitted to the HomMed Observer, which delivers a report to the designated clinician. The data are also stored for time-trended evaluation.
According to the company, the system was designed for those living with health problems associated with age or chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or congestive heart failure.
