HP Selects Specialix to Provide Serial Connectivity for Device Link

Specialix announced it has been selected by Hewlett-Packard Company to develop the serial connection technology for HP Device Link, a solution for integrating bedside medical monitoring equipment within a hospital's local area network (LAN).

HP Device Link collects patient data from medical monitoring equipment such as IV pumps, vital sign monitors and ventilators, and then transmits the data over standard TCP/IP networks to the hospital's clinical information system.

HP approached Specialix to design a concentrator that could easily connect bedside medical equipment to the hospital LAN, while meeting stringent medical product requirements for safety, reliability, and electro-static and magnetic emissions. In compliance with these requirements, Specialix designed a four-and an eight-port concentrator housed in a compact, sturdy enclosure to withstand the rigors of hospital use.

HP's Medical Products Group provides clinical measurement and diagnostic technologies, information solutions, services, support and supplies for the healthcare industry.

Headquartered in the U.K., Specialix designs, manufactures, markets and supports multi-user, network connectivity and network access solutions for the Windows NT and UNIX markets.
