Implemed Receives ISO 9001/EN 46001 Certification
Implemed, Inc., the developer of the OLIGON antimicrobial technology for the medical and consumer device market, announced that its medical manufacturing facilities received International Standards Organization (ISO) 9001/EN 46001 Certification. The ISO 9001/EN 46001 designation was awarded to the company upon the recommendation of its European Notified Body, the British Standards Institute.
Implemed developed OLIGON to help reduce the significant morbidity, mortality and cost of device-related infections. The patented OLIGON materials actively release silver ions, long known as a safe and potent antimicrobial agent, which are effective against a broad spectrum of microbes, including antibiotic-resistant strains. Testing has demonstrated that devices made from an OLIGON material destroy microbes on all device surfaces, and in the immediate surrounding environment, for an extended period of time.
The OLIGON antimicrobial technology can be used in a range of materials including plastics, rubbers and fibers, leading to a vast array of products. The worldwide market potential for OLIGON products include medical, over the counter and consumer products totaling $7 billion in sales annually. Implemed has recently launched its first product, a line of peripherally inserted central venous catheters (PICC), trademarked the OLIMPICC, in Europe. The OLIMPICC, combining the benefits of polyurethane and OLIGON, is the only available PICC with antimicrobial activity. Implemed plans to develop partnerships and licensing opportunities to maximize the use of OLIGON technology in a wide variety of medical and consumer markets as well as manufacture and sell its own products.
