Introduction To Liquid Crystal Polymers
By Kevin J. Bigham, Zeus
Liquid polymer crystals are important in day to day use, especially in medical device fields and applications. In order to better understand their significance, we must understand their liquid crystal origin and nature. Liquid crystals are made up of matter that possess characteristics of both a liquid and solid. They have the ability to flow in a liquid fashion while the molecules are ordered in a directional crystalline manner as a solid. This article introduces liquid crystal polymers and discusses their origin, structures, behaviors, and uses in thermoplastics and fibers with potentially broad applications.
