Inverter Platform

The company offers a high-powered yet economical solution for design engineers who must provide power to liquid crystal displays (LCDs) that are backlit by multiple cold cathode fluorescent tubes (CCFTs).

Called the MC, this product platform will introduce at least three inverter series to the display power industry, all designed to work with large, high-power, multi-CCFT LCD backlighting applications, such as flat panel displays. The MC design will provide maximum power, at optimum reliability, at minimum cost.

The inverter, which can power as many as 10 CCFTs, is of an open frame design, with on-board transformers that are fully encapsulated. The company offers it with multiple dimming options and in a variety of package configurations.

The initial inverter offering is tailored to provide power to existing large LCDs and backlit display assemblies, and it complement some existing company R and IB part numbers. The first MC inverter being introduced complements the R, which is and encapsulated inverter that, in ERG's the IB Series Plug and Play solution, sits on a PC board containing two mating output connectors, optional on-board dimming circuitry and a right-angle header. The inverter will be part of a new Plug and Play solution the company will offer that provides the same functions, size and height as the IB Series, but at a lower cost. For example, on the newer Plug and Play solution utilizing the MC inverter, only the transformers are encapsulated (to handle the high voltage)- the rest of the board is open, reducing manufacturing cost and the price to the user.
