Apex Medical Technologies, Inc.l Technologies, Inc. has developed a new curing method for use with synthetic and natural rubber latices and elastomers. The innovative cure method, for use on dip molded components, offers significant advantages to the medical device industry.
- Products produced using this technology are Nitrosamine free, Accelerator/Booster/Activator/and Sulfur free, thereby significantly reducing if not eliminating Type IV Allergic reactions, and exhibit excellent Biocompatibility.
- Typical material Tensile Strengths reach the 3600 - 4600 psi level with the Elongation at break equal to or higher than 900%, while the Modulus remains low and the Tensile Set is typically less than 1%.
- The end articles are white or translucent in color and can be produced odorless.
- The technology works well with synthetic elastomers and latices such as Polyisoprene and Polychloroprene, but also works well with Natural Rubber and De-Proteinized Natural Rubber.
On the manufacturing side the benefits are significant as well.
- Material processing requires no maturation or pre-vulcanization.
- Compounded material is stable over time.
- The cure process is energy efficient and expedient, requiring less than 4 minutes.
- The technology is readily adaptable to existing dip-molding facilities.
Identified products which would be benefitted by this technology include: surgical and exam gloves, condoms, catheters and catheter balloons, probe covers, etc.
Apex is seeking to license the technology to existing dip molders on a product specific basis. Alternatively, as Apex is an FDA registered custom dip molder of OEM components, we can us this curing technology in producing prototypes or production volumes for our customers.
