Li-ion Battery Charge Controller

National Semiconductor's LM3621 offline controller is designed for charge and end-of-charge control of a single-cell rechargeable lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery. Supplied in a 16-pin SOIC, this product controls five charge modes -- conditioning, top off, fast, monitor, and maintenance -- to ensure that a Li-ion battery cell is charged to 100 percent of its rated capacity. The offline controller features a 0.5 percent regulation accuracy and a pin selectable +4.1 or +4.2 VDC termination voltage for coke or graphic anode chemistries. In addition, the controller sports a charge current level regulation and current level detection with optional override adjustment.
