Medical devices are usually made from plastics, metals and ceramics. The high-friction surfaces inherent to these materials often create difficulty with insertion and maneuverability within blood vessels and other body conduits.

LubriLAST is a non-thrombogenic, biocompatible, lubricious hydrophilic polymer coating that is uniquely formatted in aqueous-based solution. LubriLAST provides excellent lubricity on device surfaces. It is durable and can incorporate bioactive agents that are released in vivo. Most importantly, LubriLAST overcomes many of the physical and processing limitations (poor adhesion, cumbersome UV or solvent processing) associated with the conventional hydrophilic coating processes.

Friction Reduction With LubriLAST, coefficient of friction on device surface can be reduced to the minimum in the aqueous environment.

Durability LubriLAST consists of a cross-linked supporting polymer network with superior cohesive properties. Therefore, it will not be eroded from the surface under mild conditions as readily as polymers deposited by simple evaporation.

Process Benefits

  • Requires only simple dip-coating technique and low-heat curing
  • Easily modified to bond on virtually any substrate
  • No residual organic solvent on device surfaces
  • No need to capture and dispose hazardous solvent materials
  • No impact on solvent sensitive biomaterials
Drug delivery LubriLAST can incorporate a variety of bioactive agents for different controlled release patterns. Anti-microbial agents (LubriLAST-K), anti-thrombogenic compounds, anti-viral agents, anti-restenosis gents and other peptide or protein drugs and some of the possibilities that may be formulated into LubriLAST.
