maxon Sensors And Encoders

Source: maxon precision motors, inc.

maxon offers a wide range of sensors and encoders including digital incremental, digital absolute, magnetic, optical, inductive, DC tacho, and resolver encoders.

Digital incremental encoders offer direction of rotation detection, quick information acquisition from the number of pulses per unit of time, and a relative position signal that is suitable for positioning tasks and many other applications. The digital absolute encoders deliver absolute single-turn position signals that are suitable for absolute positioning within one motor revolution. Options are also available to generate communication signals, making these encoders ideal solutions for special applications without a homing procedure.

Magnetic encoders use a small permanent magnet installed on the spinning motor shaft, and the sensors in the stator capture the magnetic flux. Optical encoders utilize LEDs that emit light through a finely structured code wheel, or directed at a structured reflector. The receiver then converts the light/dark signals into electric currents, which are amplified and turned into electrical pulses. DC tacho motors and resolvers are also available for special industrial solutions.
