Medtronic Physio-Control Wins Major Award

In recognition of outstanding commitment and performance excellence, Medtronic Physio-Control will receive the 1999 Washington State Quality Award (WSQA). The award presentation will take place at the fifth annual WSQA banquet on June 24 at the Bell Harbor Conference Center in Seattle.

Governor Locke congratulated the award recipient, "My congratulations to this year's award winner, Medtronic Physio-Control. It is organizations like yours that are setting new standards for excellence. The focus on customers, employees and commitment to quality are helping Washington State to be a better place to live, work, and raise a family. Thank you for all you are doing to make that a reality."

Based on the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the WSQA is given to those organizations that have implemented and achieved performance excellence. Medtronic Physio-Control was selected from five applicants representing both public and private sectors within Washington State. "Words can't describe how proud I am of the entire team," said President Richard O. Martin. "We don't see this as the end of our quality journey, just one very significant milepost along the way."

Redmond based Medtronic Physio-Control, designs, manufactures, markets and services an integrated line of non-invasive external cardiac defibrillator, pacemaker and vital sign assessment devices, disposable electrodes and data management software. In September 1998, Physio-Control Corp. merged with Medtronic, Inc., a medical device company whose main products include implantable pacemakers and defibrillators.
