Minnetronix Announces Hospira Symbiq Infusion System Wins Gold Medical Design Excellence Award

St. Paul, MN - Minnetronix, Inc. announced recently that the Hospira, Inc., Symbiq infusion system has received a 2007 Medical Design Excellence Gold Award. Minnetronix, a medical device design and manufacturing company, provided the electronics and software design for the award-winning product and was cited for its role as a supplier.

The Symbiq infusion pump is a state-of-the-art electronics-based medication management system that combines ease of use, reliability, and advanced technology, and incorporates Hospira's MedNet software, which increases patient safety and clinical ease of use.

The Medical Design Excellence Awards competition is organized and presented by Canon Communications LLC (Los Angeles) and is the only worldwide awards program that exclusively recognizes contributions and advances in the design of medical devices. Entries are evaluated on the strength of their design and engineering features, as well as their success in meeting the clinical objectives of the product. Judges consider factors such as use of materials, functions for users that improve health delivery and change traditional medical attitudes or practices, and design and engineering expertise.

A comprehensive review of the entries was performed by an impartial, multidisciplinary panel of third-party jurors with expertise in biomedical engineering, human factors, industrial design, and clinical medicine.

"We are very pleased that the Symbiq Infusion System has won this prestigious award," said Richard Nazarian, president and CEO of Minnetronix. "Symbiq is a significant advancement for patient safety, and Minnetronix is proud to have collaborated with Hospira in the development of this innovative device."
