Neometrics Internet Newborn Screening Information System Installed

San Carlos, CA - Natus Medical Incorporated announced the first two installations of its Neometrics Internet Newborn Screening Information System Transfer (iNSIST)(TM) software application for the National Newborn Screening Information System (NNSIS). Tennessee and Alabama are the first states to automate their reporting by utilizing iNSIST software.

NNSIS is a collaborative effort designed by the National Newborn Screening and Genetics Resource Center (NNSGRC), funded by a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and developed by the Company's Neometrics division. NNSIS is a secure, real-time data collection and reporting system, which allows states and U.S. territories to report newborn screening results and statistics to the NNSGRC through a convenient web browser interface. Prior to the implementation of the iNSIST application, data for newborn screening results was collected and tabulated by hand.

The iNSIST utility automates the transfer of newborn screening data from state laboratory and follow-up data repositories to the NNSIS. Running unattended in the background, iNSIST pulls data from the Neometrics Metabolic Screening Database System and Case Management System applications and transmits files that are easily imported into the NNSIS database. iNSIST may also be configured to transfer data from other third-party lab and follow-up systems. With the addition of iNSIST, the NNSIS now can provide more timely and accurate data that is readily accessible to parents, legislators, laboratories, and healthcare facilities.

NNSIS complies with state 2010 Objectives and HRSA Title V reporting requirements and supports the HRSA "Program Evaluation and Assessment Scheme" initiative.

Donna C. Williams, Project Coordinator for the National Newborn Screening and Genetics Resource Center in Austin, Texas noted, "iNSIST provides a timesaving way for programs to submit laboratory and confirmed case data to NNSIS. The system will reduce human error, provide more timely information, and assist in program evaluation activities on a real-time basis."

Jim Hawkins, President and Chief Executive Officer of Natus commented, "Currently 17 states utilize our Neometrics data management software for case follow-up, tracking and monitoring of newborn screening information. We are very pleased to now offer states a tool that facilitates the automated and timely reporting of laboratory data and case information to the NNSIS."
