New ChromaVision telepathology network system brings ACIS data to clinicians in remote locations
ChromaVision Medical Systems, Inc., the leading provider of automated cell-imaging systems and manufacturer of the ACIS system, recently announced the launch of a private network system that allows clinicians to review and analyze ACIS- generated images from remote locations. The initiative will enable physicians to send patient specimens to a central laboratory where technologists will prepare slides and perform ACIS image capture. The resulting data and images will then be made available to physicians in other laboratories, pathology practice groups or community hospitals through a secure local or wide area network or the Internet. Equipped with ACIS review stations, clinicians at these remote locations can utilize all of the ACIS features and capabilities to review, interpret and analyze the data and images as well as produce a full color report.
The development of this network significantly expands the market for ChromaVision by extending its products to physicians and laboratories whose test volumes would not otherwise support a complete ACIS system. This new network will make the quantitative and precise imaging capabilities of the ACIS system available to all pathologists and clinicians, allowing them to obtain standardized, specific and accurate information for treating physicians and their patients.
"ChromaVision has already received numerous expressions of interest for the installation of ACIS review stations," said Chairman and CEO Douglas Harrington, MD. "This network brings to virtually every pathologist and physician a revolutionary tool that in another era would have only been available through a university medical center or leading cancer center."
"Today, demands on pathologists to achieve higher levels of precision and accuracy are more rigorous than ever before," Harrington continued. "These demands will only increase with the introduction of new therapeutics, requiring specific cellular and molecular analyses to qualify patients for treatment. The implementation of this new network can bring new levels of quality control, standardization, productivity and improved workflow to all pathologists."
About ChromaVision Medical Systems, Inc.
ChromaVision Medical Systems, Inc., of San Juan Capistrano, CA, markets its Automated Cellular Imaging System (ACIS), a versatile automated microscopy system with the ability to detect, count and classify cells of clinical interest based on color, size and shape to assist pathologists in making critical medical decisions. Peer-reviewed clinical data and publications support that ACIS is able to substantially improve the accuracy, sensitivity, and reproducibility of cell imaging. Unlike manual methods of viewing and analysis, the ACIS system combines proprietary, color-based imaging technology with automated microscopy and commercially available stains and reagents. The ACIS system has been adopted by many of the top medical organizations in the United States and Europe. For more information, visit the Company's website at www.chromavision.com.
