New Method of Treating Tumors and Vascular Disease Cleared

FDA has granted marketing clearance to a new method of treating tumors and vascular disease by inhibiting blood flow.

Embosphere Microspheres, developed by BioSphere Medical Inc. (Rockland, MA), treat hypervascularized tumors and arteriovenous malformations less invasively than traditional surgical procedures, according to the company.

The company also has approvals to sell the product in Europe, Australia, and Canada. In January 2000, the company began Phase I clinical evaluations of Embosphere Microspheres for use in Uterine Artery Embolization.
