Otto Kurz founded the company in Winterbach, Germany in 1957 and began the construction of assembly machines and feeding devices. Now, with over 400 employee worldwide, OKU Automatik has developed into a highly respected firm dedicated to the construction of special purpose machines.

In the Firm's 43-year history, OKU has experienced many phases of evolution. The early years proved difficult but were marked by the production of the first and very simple assembly machines. A period of exciting growth followed resulting in the development of large-scale series production. Studding Units for the insertion of "Studs" into vehicle winter tires became a phenomenon worldwide and remains, on a smaller scale, in production today. An additional milestone in the continuing development of the firm was the conception and construction of assembly lines for the fully automatic production of audio/video cassettes for home and entertainment electronics.Virtually all renowned manufacturers in this industry from around the world were OKU customers.

However, to add to the ever-growing list of OKU accomplishments, a fully automatic Pretzel twisting machine was designed for the bakery trade. Capable of producing 1,500 pretzels per hour with first class handicraft skill, these traditional Swabian pastries cannot be distinguished from a manually twisted pretzel.

With ISO 9001 certification, OKU has developed into the worldwide leader in the construction of assembly machines and lines for virtually every industry. OKU transforms the most highly advanced assembly technologies by means of an ingenious modular system into an extremely reliable machine. Through strategically placed branch offices and joint ventures, OKU Automatik works with customers from around the globe.

Over the years, OKU has been presented with some highly complex assembly challenges. As unique as a fingerprint, each machine has been developed to meet the customer's most intricate and stringent specifications. OKU Assembly Lines produce automotive relays, thermostat valves, electric circuit breakers, mechanisms for doors and windows, medical one-way syringes and cannulae, and – believe it or not – special inserts for beer cans "for a more beautiful forming head". OKU welcomes each new assembly challenge!

Engineering excellence is only possible with a staff of highly skilled, well-trained employees. Therefore, OKU's philosophy to foster the training of apprentices into a team of experts results in workmanship of only the highest quality! Over the years, many generations of apprentices have developed their skills in the OKU training shops, beginning their career with a solid background in a technical or commercial setting and in many cases later benefiting others in their "teaching".
