Instant Instrument Instrument is a complete PC-based instrument platform designed for use in applications that utilize embedded computers. The platform provides the enclosure, display, power supply, battery, and PC subsystem. The designer creates the application software and any specific hardware required for their application. The platform is modular and comprised of the DIPU module and optional ASCU module.
The DIPU contains a five-slot ISA bus, a scaleable PC ISA SBC starting at 133 MHz 586 with 32 M RAM, a PC-104 bus connector, a 10.4-in. TFT VGA display with optional touch capability, an internal disk drive, and a PC interface ports. Power for the system is supplied by an external AC-powered 24-V DC supply and the internal batteries and charger in the DIPU will power the platform for approximately two hours for portable use or backup in case of power failure. The platform is deployable in many environments, including test and measurement, data acquisition, and medical instrumentation.
