PCMCIA Memory Card Reader
The PCD-U has two card slots, each designed for a different type of media. The small bottom slot is designed for the new SmartMedia cards—tiny storage disks, available in 2 to 32 MB versions. These SmartMedia cards are gaining popularity as "digital film" for digital cameras, and also as a fast, easy method for transferring large files between computers. The larger upper slot on the PCD-U can accommodate a single Type I or Type II PCMCIA ATA Flash card or compact Flash card. An ATA Flash card is a high capacity permanent or temporary storage solution for large quantities of data. The cards are available in various sizes, with some providing 200+ MB of storage. Because of their ruggedized construction, Flash cards are easy to store, and virtually indestructible. Further, as ATA Flash cards are compatible with older portable computers with PCMCIA slots but no USB ports, the company's PCD-U is a suitable solution for transferring files from an older laptop to a USB equipped PC.
The FreedomUSB Series of USB serial adapters, card readers and hubs was created around the idea that taking advantage of new technology should not necessitate abandoning legacy devices and the applications written for them.
With their USB product line they give you the freedom to implement the system you want with the resources you have and the code you have created. Users have the freedom to use USB enabled devices with non-USB devices, to transfer data between USB compliant and non USB compliant computers, and to expand your computer's built-in USB ports to accommodate any number of USB and legacy serial devices.
