Siemens 200th PRIMUS Linear Accelerator Will Ship to St. Elizabeth Health Center

The Oncology Care Systems Group of Siemens Medical Systems today announced it is shipping the 200th Siemens PRIMUS -- a medical linear accelerator with the ability to deliver Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) -- to St. Elizabeth Health Center's new Radiation Oncology Center in Boardman, OH.

All of the oncology equipment is manufactured by Siemens and includes four linear accelerators - two of which are PRIMUS, and a simulator. Ground was broken April 20, 1999, for the new center that is scheduled to open this fall. The PRIMUS system at St. Elizabeth Health Center will be equipped with the LANTIS, Oncology Management System, PRIMEVIEW Graphical user Interface, and the 3-D Multileaf Collimator (3-D MLC).

Siemens' PRIMUS system provides IMRT, an advanced cancer treatment that allows accurate delivery of complex radiation doses to tumors, including tumors near vital organs or other sensitive areas, while minimizing radiation to healthy tissue. This treatment system ensures precise radiotherapy control and quality dose delivery with the highest level of verification and treatment recording in the industry.
