Siemens Enhances C.cam

Toronto -- Siemens Medical Solutions' c.cam dedicated cardiac gamma camera was showcased at the 2005 Society of Nuclear Medicine (SNM) Scientific Sessions. Providing clinicians with clearer and more accurate images, the cardiac gamma camera system's new attenuation correction feature, c.clear, hopes to improve diagnostic confidence.

"Correcting for attenuation is one of the biggest obstacles in today's cardiac nuclear medicine exam," said Michael Reitermann, president, Molecular Imaging division, Siemens Medical Solutions. "As each patient has a different size and physical makeup, unwanted objects or artifacts often blur or block vital elements of an image, resulting in decreased diagnostic confidence. With c.clear, the new attenuation correction feature on the c.cam system, clinicians can easily remove or erase these unwanted objects without sacrificing image quality or resolution."

Recognized by multiple international design organizations for design excellence and winner of the red dot "Best of the Best" award for pioneering design in the "Life Science" category, the c.cam system enhances imaging accuracy and efficiency while delivering a small footprint and patient comfort. Its unique reclining chair allows patients to sit back comfortably throughout an entire imaging procedure. c.clear enhances the sensitivity and specificity of myocardial perfusion, and improves quality by correcting images distorted by artifacts such as organs within the body or breast tissue. With clearer images, clinicians can evaluate cardiac images more efficiently and diagnose disease earlier. In addition, the system improves workflow by eliminating the need to re-image patients.

Since its introduction in 2003, the c.cam has provided facilities with an imaging solution that is not only effective, but also convenient. The system's reclining chair -- which patients have compared to their recliners at home -- provides easier access for patients with mobility challenges or bariatric conditions and increased comfort for those with arthritis or other painful ailments.

In addition, c.cam's compact size can fit into a variety of environments, including both hospital and cardiology offices. The 8-foot by 8-foot footprint fits easily into even the smallest rooms without the need for extensive and costly remodeling, and system installations take just two days. Buyers can also customize the design by selecting the color of the chair -- red, yellow, blue or white.

In addition to improved patient comfort and smaller size, the system incorporates e.soft, Siemens' powerful syngo -based nuclear medicine software that meets the high-throughput and high quality demands of cardiology practices. This technology contributes to c.cam's ease of use and provides fully automated tools from one console using a common DICOM database.
