The SC-2 offers the same mobile source capture function for gases, fumes and particulates as the SC-1, but with a much greater capacity. It differs by utilizing a one-piece backward-inclined motorized impeller under negative pressure, rather than the separated backward-inclined impeller and motor incorporated in the SC-1.

Each stage of the four-stage progressive filtration system protects the subsequent stages. The stage one prefilter removes the larger particles, which can load the HEPA filter. The stage two 99.99% efficient HEPA filter removes all dusts, powders and other particulates which can fill the interstitial spaces of the activated carbon in the Carbon Composite Module (stages three and four). Stage three is a fine mesh activated carbon, which rapidly absorbs the majority of volatile organic compounds vapors. Stage four adds an absorbent granular material, which may be further treated to absorb specific compounds.

The physical construction of the Composite Carbon Module is what makes the Source Capture so effective. Fine activated carbon granules are bound to a filter medium without using glues or other adsorption hindering materials. The use of fine mesh carbon results in an approximate four to eight fold increase in surface area, per weight of carbon, over coarser carbon. In stage four activated carbon and/or another adsorbent granular material is added to greatly increase its holding capacity. A wide selection of treated granular material is available for stage four. The Carbon Composite Module, the HEPA filter and the prefilter are independently removable and changeable.
