Split and Turn Bulk Roll Unwind System

The company has designed a Medical Grade Split and Turn Bulk Roll Unwind System that allows for dual registration of preprinted top and bottom webs on any packaging machine. The system utilizes a unique set of controls, to allow for accurate and trouble0free operation on all materials where registered print is required on both sides of a package. The system can be retrofitted to any company medical packaging machine to provide a high-speed solution to dual web registration requirements.

Conventional unwind systems using upper and lower bulk roll unwinds can not simultaneously register both the top and bottom webs to the packaging process. The Split and Turn Unwind can be used when large amounts of print copy is required to be in register on both sides of a pack. Cold Seal material, that typically require top to bottom registration of the sealant pattern, can also be used with the system, allowing a machine to be run faster and thus increasing total output.

The new system operates by unwinding a "double width" web from a single bulk roll. The web is slit in half using a precision slitter. Then, the two separated webs are routed through a series of 90 degree turn bars resulting in one web above and one web below the product loading area. By originating from a single bulk roll, the same tension is maintained on both webs through the packaging machine, guaranteeing that the preprinted front and back package print will always be in register.

The Split and Turn Material Unwind System is designed to meet the needs of the Medical Industry by providing greater control than has been previously available. An automatic web guiding system correctsany web drift or material winding variations, and automatic tension control is provided to maintain constant web tension. Both of these features relieve the machine operators from constant machine observation and adjustment. The system's cradle mounted shafts and quick release safety chucks provide for easy and safe roll loading and set up. The system is fully validatable and GMP compliant.
