Start-up cleared to market low-cost electrophysiology catheter; seeking investors

A start-up medical device firm has received FDA clearance of its 3-French steerable decapolar electrophysiology diagnostic catheter. The clearance also includes a fixed curve version of this catheter design.

"During electrophysiology study, our slim, steerable catheter will help solve the problem of catheter congestion and difficulty in accessing certain intracardiac regions, especially in the right chambers of a heart," said Jamil Mogul, CEO and chairperson of Mogul Enterprises Inc. (San Jose, CA).

Mogul Enterprises is developing inexpensive medical devices related to cardiovascular applications and minimally invasive/general surgery for the U.S, European, Japanese and emerging markets. The catheter will be priced approximately 30% below the competition.

Mogul is in the process of upgrading its manufacturing facility to produce the catheter in a higher volume. A limited market launch is expected to occur within next four to six months. To complete a full launch of the product, the company is seeking investment partners in order to construct a larger facility. An exclusive license to manufacture and/or distribute the catheter on a territory basis is also being offered.
