SteriGenics to Develop New Irradiation Facility In Thailand

SteriGenics International Inc. has received the necessary approvals and permits for the development of its irradiation complex located near Laem Chabang, Thailand.

According to James F. Clouser, president and CEO, the company plans to begin operation of its first dual-modality irradiation complex following the installation of the company's MiniCell gamma irradiation system, which is expected to be complete by June 1999. E-beam processing services should be available within three to six months following the completion of the MiniCell. The complex will offer both gamma and E-beam technologies and has a planned capacity equivalent to 11 million curies of cobalt and upward of 90 kW of E-beam power.

The company believes that Thailand presents significant opportunities in both the medical sterilization and advanced applications markets. "Recent trends suggest that a number of device manufacturers are establishing operations in the Thai market," said Clouser.

SteriGenics International Inc. is a provider of contract irradiation and sterilization services, with 20 years of experience in the design and development of gamma irradiation facilities and equipment. The company currently operates a nationwide network of facilities, offering either gamma or E-beam irradiation. Upon completion of the Thailand complex and its three plants under construction throughout the United States, SteriGenics will operate a total of 17 irradiation processing facilities worldwide.
