Steris Expands Processing Services in North America

Steris Corp. (Mentor, OH) announced the expansion of their current Steris/Isomedix Services operations in the Chicago area and the construction of a new processing facility in Southern California. These investments will further strengthen Steris's position in the contract sterilization, microbial reduction, and materials modification industry.

The Chicago-based Steris/Isomedix Services network is scheduled to complete the addition of continuous gamma irradiation processing to their existing services by December of this year. Currently, the company's three Chicago-area facilities offer batch gamma irradiation, E-beam irradiation, and gamma test services to medical device, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and industrial customers.

The new Ontario, CA facility, scheduled to open early in 2000, will offer gamma irradiation services, technical and validation support, and logistic services. The facility, designed with future expansion capabilities, will utilize a dual gamma irradiator system. This dual system will provide maximum flexibility in meeting specific dose and turnaround time requirements.
