Sulzer Medica establishes new dental company

Sulzer Medica (Winterthur, Switzerland) announced it has formed Sulzer Dental Inc., which will encompass the former Sulzer Calcitek and the newly acquired Paragon Implant Co.

In November, Sulzer Medica said it was buying Paragon for $100 million. The acquisition effectively doubled the company's market share, making it among the top three in sales of dental implants worldwide. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has already approved the acquisition, which was completed on Jan. 8.

Sulzer Dental offers dental implants for use in either single-stage or two-stage surgery. The company's products provide a variety of surfaces to enable integration of the jawbone to the implants and offer connections between implant and abutment to secure a lasting fit of the prosthesis on the implant.

The new company will be headquartered in Carlsbad, CA.
